Fathers Day 2007
posted by: Zach Larson on 06-22-2007
My Dad and brother came up to Des Moines last Friday for Fathers Day and to check out the Des Moines Triathlon. They got into town around 5:30pm and we went and got some steaks to grill and just hung out the rest of the night. The next morning we headed down to the Farmers Market in Des Moines and picked up some stuff to make lunch. I think the Farmers Market has gotten a lot bigger since last year which is really cool. He were down there for about an hour or so. It was super hot so we took off. That afternoon we ran out to Jordan Creek for a while and then Dad, Jake, and I went over to Dereks to have a quick drink before dinner. About a month ago Derek and I threw around the idea of going to Taki for Fathers Day with our families. Well it ended up being 19 people at Taki. They had two grills going for us and we squeezed in around 2 tables. As always at Taki everyone had a really good time. On Sunday we kind of hung out around the house in the morning and then went to El Rodeo for lunch. We then went over to the Des Moines Art Center to look around a bit. After checking this place out I'm going to pay more attention to what installations are going in and check them out. There were a lot of really nice pieces in their collection. My favorites were a portrait of Pope Innocent X by Francis Bacon, L'homme au Doigt by Giacometti, and Ballet Girl in White by Robert Henri. After that we headed downtown to find a spot to watch the cycling portion of the triathlon. We stood at Grand and 3rd so we could watch them take the corner and head up towards the Wells Fargo Arena. It was fun. Here are some pictures. That night we grilled some chicken and watched Family Guy. Dad and Jake took off Monday morning when I went to work. We all had a really great weekend.
