Finally playing with clay again
posted by: Zach Larson on 06-07-2007
Back in high school I got really into throwing pottery. My senior year I spent a lot of time in the art room by myself throwing bowls and just practicing a lot. When I went to college I got really into computers and kind of pushed art to the side for a while. During my junior and senior years classes got really stressful and I immediately fell back on pottery as a stress relief. I signed up for a class my senior year and spent A LOT of time in there after class and at night. Its a very therapeutic thing for me. After college I moved to Des Moines, IA and immediately started working a full time job. Since I didn't go to college up here I didn't really have any connections with any art departments at the schools so I couldn't get back into pottery right away. Then one day I saw an add for summer classes through the Des Moines Art Center. I looked for some sort of pottery class and signed up the next day. Last night was the beginning of a 6 week course for beginner to intermediate pottery. It goes from 6-9pm every Wednesday. I had so much fun, so relaxing. Hopefully I will stick with it and maybe when I get a house with a basement I can get my own wheel and just throw at home.
