Labor Day Weekend 2007
posted by: Zach Larson on 09-04-2007
Amy and I headed back home to see some family over the Labor Day weekend. My mom was in Minnesota over the weekend and Amys mom just left for Ghana, Africa for mission work. I hate to say it but it was nice to only have two places to be while we were home: Amys grandmas and my dads house. Usually we are running around like crazy trying to see everyone. We got in Friday night and stayed the night at Amys grandmas house. Saturday morning I went on a 25 mile bicycle ride with my dad and his buddy Tom. We went around Oak Run, the weather couldn't have been better. The hills out there are crazy though. It was the first ride on my new bike where we were hitting some big hills. It handled them nicely. The rest of that afternoon we hung out at my dads house and fished a little. That night we met one of Amys friends from high school at the Bijou Pub really quick before heading over to Galesburg, IL to meet up with Amys sister and some of her friends from work. We checked out the Seminary Street Pub and Cherry Street while we were over there. On Sunday I met my dad at the old house in Monmouth to help cut up part of a tree that fell during a storm last week. We quickly found out that we aren't expert chainsawers. We ended up with 2/3 of the broken branch hanging over us. The tree fell on the picnic table which broke it. My dad slowly cut at the tree and then we pushed on it until it fell completely out of the tree. After that we went to Amys grandmas for lunch and went out to Youngs Lake to fish some more. That night we went to my dads for dinner and then headed back to Des Moines.
